Spectrum Health Fee Schedule

Medicare Bulk billing is available with no gap to pay
Medicare bulk billing is available for standard adult consultations with a Registered Psychologist between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. Consult with your GP to see if you are eligible for a referral under a Medicare approved Mental Health Plan. To get a referral you will need to make an appointment with your GP to complete a Mental Health Care Plan. It is important to tell the doctor’s receptionist that you want a referral to a psychologist as the GP needs approximately 30 minutes to discuss the plan with you – so make sure you ask for a double session! You will be entitled to six sessions with a psychologist, and may extend this with an additional four sessions with approval from your GP within a 12 month period.
If you need an after hours appointment after 5pm on a weeknight, you can still claim a Medicare Rebate, and this will reduce the out-of-pocket cost to you to only $45.20 (see the Standard Appointment information below). If you require an after hours appointment on a Saturday, you can still claim a Medicare Rebate, and this will reduce the out-of-pocket cost to you to only $65.20 (see the Weekend Appointment information below).

WorkCover appointments are available with no gap to pay
You may be eligible for services funded by WorkCover NSW. If your psychological injury is the result of a workplace incident, or occurred whilst commuting to/from work, please see your GP for a WorkCover referral. If your GP determines that you do have a psychological difficulty as a result of a work-related incident, you will be issued with a WorkCover medical certificate. If the GP also decides that you would benefit from seeing a psychologist, you will be given a referral to a psychologist of your choice.
In order to initiate your WorkCover claim you will need to submit your Workcover certificate to your employer. Your employer will submit your Workers Compensation medical certificate to the company’s insurer. When the insurer has initiated the claim they will contact you with your claim number. You will need this claim number, the Workers Compensation Medical certificate and a doctor’s referral before you can make your appointment with a psychologist. There are legal time frames within which each party needs to provide information. You will have no out-of-pocket costs for your appointments with a psychologist under Workcover.

The Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) and the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) appointments are available with no gap to pay
If you are a Veteran you are eligible for free allied health services including focused psychological interventions.
Holders of a Gold Card (the Repatriation Health Card – For All Conditions within Australia) are entitled to the full range of health care services at DVA’s expense, including psychological interventions. Holders of a White Card (the Repatriation Health Card – For Specific Conditions) are entitled to be treated at DVA’s expense. A White Card may be issued to Australian veterans for the treatment of non-service posttraumatic stress disorder, clinical depressions or severe anxiety disorders. The veteran should speak to DVA before obtaining any treatment in case payment or reimbursement cannot be made.
VVCS provides free and confidential, nation-wide counselling and support for war and service-related mental health conditions, such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance and anger. VVCS also provides relationship and family counselling to address issues that can arise due to the unique nature of the military lifestyle. VVCS counsellors have an understanding of military culture and can work with clients to find effective solutions for improved mental health and wellbeing.

Your private health insurance may cover some of your costs
Many private health insurers cover psychology services as part of their ‘extras’ cover. Please contact your insurer to see whether you are covered and what rebate you might receive, as we are unable to check for you do to privacy laws and everybody’s policy is different. You will be asked to pay for your session by EFTPOS when you attend, and you will be provided with an invoice that you can provide to your health fund to seek a rebate or reimbursement.
Unfortunately it is not possible to claim your private health insurance rebate to top up your Medicare rebate if you are attending weekend, after hours or other appointments where a gap is applicable. Some clients therefore choose to make use of their private health insurance rebate, and when that runs out, they turn to Medicare.

Employee Assistance Program appointments are available with no gap to pay
EAPs are employer-funded confidential counselling services provided to employees (and often their families). EAP services provide independent psychological assessments and short-term counselling directed at personal, family and work-related problems that might impact on an employee’s performance and/or health.
We are partnered with many local, national and international organisations and approved to provide a limited number of sessions with a psychologist funded by your workplace. You can check with your manager or human resources (HR) team to see if we are a registered provider for your organisation. If we are not, we can still provide these services with their endorsement and agreement.
